This immersive 2 Day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Desert Tour is designed for travelers who want to experience Morocco’s most iconic landscapes and cultural landmarks in a short but rewarding timeframe. Traveling from Ouarzazate to the edge of the Sahara, the route unfolds through palm-filled oases, fragrant valleys, dramatic canyons, and vast sand dunes.
The experience reaches its peak in the Merzouga Desert, where a camel trek leads you across golden dunes to a luxury desert camp. Under a sky filled with stars, you’ll enjoy authentic Berber hospitality, music, and cuisine before greeting the desert sunrise the following morning. This tour blends nature, culture, and unforgettable desert moments into one enriching escape.

Your 2 Day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Tour begins in Ouarzazate, a city often referred to as Morocco’s desert gateway and a hub of film history. After meeting your driver, you’ll start with a visit to Atlas Film Studios, where many world-famous movies and series were filmed. Nearby, Taourirt Kasbah offers a glimpse into traditional Moroccan architecture and the region’s historic role in desert trade routes.
Leaving Ouarzazate behind, the road leads you southeast to Skoura Oasis, a fertile area dotted with thousands of palm trees. Here, you’ll visit Amridil Kasbah, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in southern Morocco, offering insight into oasis life and traditional farming systems.
The journey continues through the Rose Valley, where fields of roses bloom each spring and are transformed into perfumes, oils, and cosmetics.
As the scenery becomes more dramatic, you’ll arrive at Todra Gorges. Towering red cliffs rise sharply on both sides of the narrow canyon, carved over centuries by the river below. Take time to walk through the gorge, enjoy lunch nearby, and admire one of Morocco’s most striking natural formations.
In the late afternoon, the landscape shifts once again as you reach the outskirts of Merzouga and the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, you’ll leave the vehicle behind and begin a camel trek across the sand dunes. Pause atop a high dune to watch the sunset paint the desert in shades of gold and orange before continuing to your luxury desert camp.
At the camp, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and warm hospitality. Spend the night in a comfortable tent surrounded by silence, stars, and endless sand.
Rise early to witness sunrise over the Sahara, a calm and unforgettable moment as light slowly spreads across the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll return to Merzouga by camel, where your driver will be waiting.
The next stop is Rissani, a historic town once central to trans-Saharan trade. Its lively souk offers a look into everyday local life, with stalls selling spices, dates, textiles, and traditional goods. Walking through the market provides a genuine cultural experience away from tourist crowds.
From Rissani, the 2 Day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Morocco Tour continues through the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest river valleys. The road winds past endless palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and small villages that reflect the traditional rhythms of southern Morocco. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch and photo breaks to enjoy the changing scenery.
In the afternoon, you’ll reach the famous Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a striking example of earthen clay architecture and has served as the backdrop for numerous films and TV series. Take time to explore its narrow alleys and panoramic viewpoints before continuing the drive.
By late afternoon or early evening, you’ll return to Ouarzazate, where the tour comes to an end with drop-off at your accommodation bringing your 2 Day Ouarzazate to Merzouga Desert Tour to a memorable close.

One of the best tour experiences i have ever had was in Morocco with Desert Discovery Tours. It helped me really appreciate the country as a beautiful cultural place, and it has turned into one of the favourite countries I have ever visited. The planning and length of the tour was well thought out and I was able to experience all the attractions that I wanted to see. Itinerary was also flexible and we were able to pace ourselves comfortably. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and even the external tour guides that the company provided when it came to private city tours were very professional. Cultural stops, such as the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, also greatly enriched the experience.A special compliment to the guide Brahim, always kind, professional and helpful, who made the tour even more enjoyable. Experience recommended.Posted on Eva M.Verified Morocco unforgettable!!! My partner and I set off on a 3-day (and two-night) private tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert, returning to Marrakech. Our driver Omar welcomed us warmly and made us feel immediately at home, indeed, the van that had been reserved for us (very modern, clean and comfortable) and it soon became our home. Our guide accompanied us safely to all the scheduled stops giving us different explanations in Italian, also fulfilling our every request or wish. A special mention to the Riad Rihana Dades Hotel where we slept the first night: very nice and comfortable room but above all sublime dinner (and breakfast)!!!! The tented camp in the desert was another pleasant discovery. Very nice and full of every comfort. In general, the planned program, which allowed us to discover many different landscapes and realities, was totally respected for the excellent organization of the agency. I would definitely recommend desert discovery tours both for efficiency and for the people we met and who took care of us with kindness and professionalism. Another driver we want to remember is Ahmad, who accompanied us on the last day to Marrakech showing preparation and kindness. Thank you all, it was truly an authentic and unforgettable experience. Thanks to our guide IbrahimPosted on Lance KVerified 9-day tour through Morocco We did a custom 9-day private tour starting in Marrakech, through Dades valley then the deserts near Merzouga, continuing to Fes, Chefchaouen, and ending in Rabat/Casablanca, with stops along the way. Highlight was camping in the Sahara desert -- riding camels through the sands to reach the campsite, feeling the soft orange sands run through your fingers, listening to the drums by the fire under the stars -- it was quite the sensory experience. Our guide/driver Hsaine / Hassan was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable in many subject matters, able to converse in multiple languages. Highly recommended.
