We’re continuing our 6 days desert tour from Casablanca and moving on from Fes to the Sahara desert via a scenic road that is full of plenty of attractions on the way. Our first stop will be in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco for its alpine climate. Then, we’ll pass through hills covered in forests of cork oak and large cedar trees, where we will have a chance to see the monkeys. We’ll cross the Middle Atlas mountains and get our first look at the unique architecture of southern Morocco. Going down into the desert plains, the scenery changes from tall mountains to a big oasis with many fortified villages and Ksours.
Then, we’ll reach a wide, stony area that marks the edge of the Sahara. As the sun goes down, we’ll ride camels into the orange sand dunes. You’ll have plenty of time to explore and enjoy the vast Merzouga desert dunes. When the sun sets, we’ll have a Moroccan dinner with live music by the campfire. Afterward, you can explore again, this time under a sky full of stars and the quietness of the Sahara night.
The sunrise over the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi will be amazing, so make sure to wake up early to see it. After having breakfast and a shower at the desert camp, you’ll be taken back to Merzouga Village by camel or 4×4. We’ll then drive to Rissani, where you can explore a museum with fossils and take a leisurely walk around the historic market.
Our journey will continue through several Berber villages like Mellab, Tinjdad, and Jourf, which are known for their ancient wells. Next, we’ll reach Todra Valley and the tall, 300-meter canyons of the Todra Gorges. The water’s force might have carved its way through the rocks’ cracks. We’ll take a walk inside the gorge and then head to Ouarzazate through Boumalne Dades and Roses Valley.
